The Northwest Jacksonville Corridor Improvements will enhance the transit user experience for underserved communities in Northwest Jacksonville by improving amenities at 111 bus stops. Improvements are focused on safety and accessibility, providing equitable connections to destinations in the community, and embracing the communities’ identities.
The project will consider how riders are moving outside of the bus stop and connecting with the surrounding area. Bus stop upgrades will include traditional amenities such as shelters, benches, trash receptacles, and bike racks as well as amenities such as dynamic messaging for route information, safety improvements like lighting, community maps, and artistic renderings highlighting community identity.
As of the end of August 2024, 7 stops have been completed along Soutel Drive and Moncrief Road with new amenities including new shelters, leaning rails, safety lighting, real time messaging, and artwork.
The JTA invited artists to submit their art which the community voted on at a reception on August 27, 2024. Selected artwork will be installed and showcased on shelters in October 2024.
