The Northwest Jacksonville Corridor Improvements will enhance the transit user experience for underserved communities in Northwest Jacksonville by improving amenities at 111 bus stops. Improvements are focused on safety and accessibility, providing equitable connections to destinations in the community, and embracing the communities’ identities.

The project will consider how riders are moving outside of the bus stop and connecting with the surrounding area. Bus stop upgrades will include traditional amenities such as shelters, benches, trash receptacles, and bike racks as well as amenities such as dynamic messaging for route information, safety improvements like lighting, community maps, and artistic renderings highlighting community identity.

As of the end of August 2024, 7 stops have been completed along Soutel Drive and Moncrief Road with new amenities including new shelters, leaning rails, safety lighting, real time messaging, and artwork.

In August 2024, JTA invited local artists to submit bus shelter artwork designs for the community to vote on. The selected artwork, installed at seven bus shelters this Fall, was celebrated at the art reveal and ribbon-cutting ceremony with JTA officials, City Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman, the artists, and community on November 7, 2024. Artwork by Erin Kendrick, Christopher Clark, and Keith Doles is now featured at three shelters at the Soutel Hub and four other shelters along the NW Corridor. The new artwork is designed to enhance the rider experience and contribute to a more vibrant culture in the area. For more information about the artists and program, click here.
